These are case-making moths. The females arewingless, the legs, antennee, and organs of the mouth,being almost entirely obliterated. A few small speciesare found in this country. They are found attached to and gorse in May, when the moth silky texture, and strengthenedor protected by the addition ofpieces of stick. At the lowerend is a flexible aperture,through which the excrementis discharged. Through a tubeat the upper end the larvacomes out to feed. Thesecases are attached to variousshrubs. Similar cases are foundin South Africa. The generations of the femalePsychidse have been observedto succeed each other, withoutthe production of or access tothe winged male,through sevensuccessive years.—(SeeSieboldon Parthenogenesis.)
