EARLY RED, or PURPLE TOP STRAP- LEAVED. The best known and most gener- ally planted variety. It is a quick grower, and the flesh is very fine grained and sweef fla- vored. Extra Early Purple Top Munich. After the Milan, the earliest variety in cultivation, forming bulbs six inches in diameter within three months, which, how- ever, must be used young, as they become stringy and coarse when old.
