The meaning of the name Kobo Daishi recognizes his excellence as a teacher as well as his work to spread Esoteric Buddhism throughout Japan. Many temples along the Shikoku Pilgrimage trail have large statues of Kobo Daishi on their grounds. This one is at Iwamoto-ji Temple No. 37.
