African spurred tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata)


The African spurred tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata) is the biggest mainland tortoise species in the world. They are found on the edges of the Sahara and Sahel deserts down into Africa. Due to their size they are a favorite food item as well as pets. These animals are protected by CITES.
