Centro Botanico Moutan is located at the foot of the Cimini Mountains near Viterbo, Italy. It is the most important and largest Chinese Peony collection in all the world and is privately owned. It was founded in 1993 and the name 'Moutan' comes from 'MouDan' or Tree Peony in Chinese. The Tree Peony is found in some of the most remote regions of China and has beautiful highly scented flowers. The shrubs flower in Spring and this is the best time to see them. This specialist nursery garden has over 100,000 plants from 600 different varieties on display.
