John Hamilton, b. 19 Feb., 1843, was educated at Upper Canada College and at Trinity College (Toronto), at thelatter taking a scholarship, but not completing the full course,did not take a degree. His father desired him to studylaw, but his tastes since boyhood have always been for agri-cultural pursuits. Immediately after the close of the CivilWar, he engaged in planting on the James River in Virginia,but an attack of fever and ague compelled him to relinquishit. Hamilton Dibble Jessup {Edward,^^^ Edward, ^^^jToseph, 9Edward,^ Edward^), born in Augusta (Prescott), Canada, 2 May,1806; married Sophia Matilda Trudeaux, daughter of MichaelTrudeaux of Montreal, who died 21 Sept., 1881. She was a ladyof fine education, and great excellence, and belonged to theCatholic Church. He was educated in the grammar schools of the Johnstowndistrict (Leeds and Grenville counties), studied medicine atMontreal, and was a practising physician for more than thirtyyears.
