EDINBURG, Texas – (Oct. 1, 2018) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) Jene Maxwell of Los Angeles assigned to Navy Recruiting Station McAllen talks with Heather Stevenson, a junior attending Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Early College High School in San Juan, Texas, regarding a career in America’s Navy during the Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology (HESTEC) STEM + ME Expo being held on the campus of the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Through a collaboration with Workforce Solutions, the event included exhibitors from different industries, to include Navy Recruiting District San Antonio, sharing about careers and workforce opportunities. Now in its 17th year, HESTEC has been recognized as a “Bright Spot in Hispanic Education” by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. Maxwell, who is new to recruiting, joined the Navy in 2012 after graduating from Tioga High School in Alexandria, La.
