The mechanism of spatial beauty is an interesting study,and within certain limits, a useful one; but it can never take the place ofthe creative faculty, it can only restrain and direct it. The study of propor-tion is to the architect what the study of harmony is to a musician,—it helpshis genius adequately to express itself.
