This T-33 Shooting Star static display honoring Gen. Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. was taken down for refurbishment on September 14, 2018. Gen. James was the first African American four-star general in the United States Military and served as an all-weather jet fighter pilot at Otis Air Force Base in the 1950s. In April 1953 he became commander of the 437th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, and in August 1955 he assumed command of the 60th FIS on base.
