Some Condensed Facts and Working Figures. Some of the facts and estimates upon which the Tuberculosis Com-mission has built its recommendations for action are as follows: 1. Approximately five thousand deaths in California each year arecaused hy tuherciUosis. This means that as an annual average oneperson out of every five hundred of our population is sacrificed to thisdisease; or stated in another war (since approximately one seventh ofall deaths are due to tuberculosis) the chances of these five thousandCalifornians living to a ripe old age would be improved 14 per cent ifwe could eliminate this disease. 2. Thirty per cent of these five thousand deaths are among nativeCalifornians, and a large percentage among persons who have lived inCalifornia more than t
