A greater problem is caused by the rapid silting of the ponds. The water level is so closely dependent on that of the Alamo River, and the level of that is so uncertain, that these ponds scarcely can be expected to last for many years even with the best care. Their usefulness would no dnul)t be greatly pro- longed if greater effort were made to retard the deposition of silt in them.
