Pollution research. Researcher monitoring the methane and carbon dioxide flux from peat core samples using an infra-red gas analyser (IRGA). These soil samples are in a fumigation chamber that produces controlled exposure to the pollutant gas, ozone, replicating present and projected ozone climates. There is a potential for ozone to affect methane fluxes from wetland ecosystems, which is an important global change feedback not considered in current global warming models (as of 2008). Photographed at Close House field station, Newcastle University, UK.
