A history of the British sessile-eyed Crustacea . ructure, as well as with anotherspecimen in the same collection labelled by Signor Costahimself. It is evident, however, that the C. chelipes of Fabriciusand Latreille cannot be identified with the animal beforeus, the Cauda tridentata of the Fabrician descriptionbeing entirely distinct from the remarkable character ofthe extremity of the tail of /. parallela. Signor Costastates of his species, Trovasi ne mari dInghilterra e diZelandia, taking the habitat from Pallas by regardinghis species as the Oniscus linearis of Pallas Spic. ZooLfasc. 9, t. 4, f. 17 and 18. These figures are indeed bad,but there can be little doubt that they represent smalland narrow specimens of /. tricuspidata, and we believeFabricius was correct in referring Pallas figures to hisC. chelipes, as Pallas describes the tail of his species asobscurely tridentate, and indeed refers his linearis toO. chelipes of his former work, from which probably Fabri-cius had taken it up. 394 IDOTEID^. It is unfortu-nately in very bad condition, having been pinned whilstin a soft state, so that the sides of the body liave curveddownwards, and our figure consequently represents theanimal as having its lateral margin much too continu
