Stone Monuments, Tombstones and Mausoleum's in Okunoin Buddhist Cemetery in Koyasan, Japan.
This vast forested Buddhist cemetery is one of Japan's most spiritual places. Prominent Buddhist Monks and devout Buddhist worshippers has their remains interred here, from simply a lock of their hair to their entire cremated ashes. They believe by doing this they will be closer to the physical place Buddha of the Future (Miroku Buddha) will return to when he comes to earth. The forest is covered with tall cedar trees, stone stupa's and accessed via cobblestone paths. The area is accessible to all members of the public free of charge.
