Robert Burns Monument in the Robert Burns National Heritage Park Alloway Scotland
Editorial use only. No commercial use. Erection of The Burns Monument commenced in 1820 and it was opened to the public in 1823. The foundation stone was laid by Alexander Boswell, son of James Boswell. The monument now takes up a central place in the Burns National Heritage Park in Alloway just south of Ayr and has become a place of pilgrimage for admirers of Scotland’s National Poet. It is possible to enjoy spectacular views of Burns’ beloved Alloway from the roof of the Monument. The Heritage park is on the far side of the road in the centre. The River Doon is on the left. The white building in the centre is the Brig O'Doon House hotel & cafe with gardens.
