A team of three firefighters works to extinguish the fire as shortly before 6:00 on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 the Bridgehampton Fire Department was called out for a report of a structure fire at 198 Narrow Lane East. First arriving units found the home to be fully involved with fire, and shortly thereafter requested mutual aid from the Sag Harbor and East Hampton Fire Departments, as well as the Southampton Fire Department's Rapid Intervention Team. After having an initial problem with establishing a permanent water supply due to a broken well, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire without incident or injury. Unfortunately, however, an adult male victim perished in the fire, and the Southampton Town Fire Marshal's Office and Southampton Town Police Department detectives remained on the scene for several hours afterwards in an effort to determine the fire's cause and origin.
