Inthis cradle the worm spins itself a fine silky en-velope, and turns gradually into a small delicatepale brown chrysalis. Here it is rocked by thewinds upon the withered stems until the flowersreturn with the spring. The worm, in its earlystages, is of a pale sickly green with a brownhead. As it grows older it becomes tawny red,mth small rough spiracles, from each of whichsprings a bristle which is not perceptible withouta magnifier.
