Torrington, 71 miles north-east of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and 166 miles north of Denver, Colorado, was incorporated in 1908 and was originally a watering and coaling station on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (CB & Q). The town was founded and named by after Torrington in Connecticut. Torrington lies in the middle of a fine farming area, irrigated by the Interstate Canal, and for which it is the shipping and supply station.
