His grandfather was a Major of militia in the war of181:2, anil his great grandfather was aCaptain in the Revolutionary war, andwas in the battle, of Fort Montgom-ery. Jacob D. Stringham and Commo-dore Stringham are cousins. was enrolled in CompanyD, September fourteenth, 1861, on themuster of which he was made FourthSergeant. When enlisted he was afarmer. Lieutenant Stringham participated in the following battles :—Rappahan-nock Station, Warrenton Springs, Gainesville, Bull Run, South Mountain,Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. On the first day of January, 1864, he enlisted as a veteran volunteer. Man hsixteenth, 1864, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant. In March and April,1864, he visited home on a thirty day furlough. Returning to the army, he wentinto the Dattle of the Wilderness, Ya., May tilth, 1864,and was kill
