Its chief function is to provide the means of making pay-ments at a distance, but it can be used for paying money in the city,either by orders drawn at the main office payable at any station, or atany station pavablc at the main office or anv other station, or by arecent order of the department, orders may be issued payable at theoffice of issue. The money order office may thus be used as a bank ofdeposit, the order being made payable to the depositor, and the moneywill be paid at any time on presenting the order, or, if that hasbeen lost, a duplicate will be issued without fiirther payment.
