The church of St Mary the Virgin, at St Mary in the Marsh, Romney Marsh Kent.


The church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the 12th century. it is built on a mound above the one time level of winter flooding. It was added to in the 13th century to reflect both an increasing population and the increasing number of guild and chantry altars. In the churchyard a simple wooden post marks the grave of the author E. Nesbit, who wrote The Railway Children and other children's books.
