In1901 Mr. Desmond was appointed caretaker of the high school of Pitts-field, which is one of the most beautiful structures in that vicinity ofthe county, and the citizens of Pittsfield, especially those who ha^e chil-dren attending that school, are to be congratulated in having such atrustworthy official on duty. In 1902 he was appointed a member ofthe city council, and for several terms ser\ed on the school board ofPittsfield.
