Rev. Dick Reed of St. James Church blesses the foxhounds and fox hunters during the start of the fox hunting season at Middleton Place plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. The hunt is a drag hunt where a scented cloth is used instead of live fox. Middleton Place Hounds fox hunt is a drag hunt. Drag hunting is a sport in which foxhounds chase a scent that has been dragged over a terrain before the hunt. The hounds and fox hunters on horseback follow the scent as if it was a live animal. Drag hunting is not a blood sport in that no animal is hunted or killed.
