Visitors at Prasat Phanom Rung, inching to catch a glimpse of the rising sun through the portals of the Hindu Khmer temple complex

Phanom Rung Historical Park is an archaeological site in Thailand, covering the ruins of Prasat Phanom Rung, a Hindu Khmer Empire temple complex, set on the rim of an extinct volcano, in Buriram Province. Built of sandstone and laterite between the 10th and 13th centuries, the temple represents Mount Kailash and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a future World Heritage Site.
