A Frankish sword with a pattern welded blade,7th/8th century A broad blade with easily visible structure. The core is of folded Damascus with edges set into each side. Sturdy straight quillons,slightly tapered tang. Pointed oval pommel plate with two lateral holes. Cleaned water find with very good substance. The surfaces have been reworked,with remnants of deep pitting in places. Length 84 cm.
