Numerous advantages resultfrom and are peculiar to my novel con-struction. It is deemed sufficient for thepurposes of this specification to mentionthat the weight of the truck as a whole ismuch less than that of any truck of thischaracter heretofore placed upon the mar-ket. The general construction and ar-rangement of parts are such that thetruck as a whole is stronger and cheaperto build. The springs are all in pairs, and each spring carries an equal part ofthe weight. The spring travel of the bol-ster is nearly three times as great as inany truck heretofore devised, it beingunderstood, of course, that in using theterm bolster I include by implicationthe car-l)ody as 1 -11 second, that owing to the greatly-increas-ed spring travel and the novel mode inwhich the bolster is supported the blowsof the wheels at the joints are almostcompletely dissipated—i e., taken up dur-ing their transmission through the springs—whereby the life of the truck is greatlyincreased and the cost of maintenance notonly of the track-rails, but of the wheels, axles, springs, truck-frames as a whole, and car-bodies as a whole, is enormouslyreduced. Adjustable Switch-Rod No. 679, C. LEE and MILES F. MOORE, of Chicago, 111., assignors to Morden Frog & Crossing Works, of same place. The inventors claim : In an adjustableswitch rod, the combination of The imporcau. ... s uoulting fromthe use of my novel truck may be general-ized under two main heads—first, easeof riding and greatly-increased comfort topassengers, owing to incieased spring mo-tion and reduced motion of the body, ris-ing and falling of the bolster and car-body, as well as lateral a
