Trouv6s Bichromate Battery.—This now famous battery isone of the best for electric lighting and motor purposes, it may bereadily charged, and as readily manipulated, and is therefore one ofthe most convenient arrangements for Surgical and Dental uses. I\ Levy, 252, Goswell Road, London, is the agent in thiscountry for the battery, and to him I am indebted for the illustration. VOL. IV. B 18 THE DENTAL RECORD. Each battery (Fig. ii) consists of a wooden box, containing sixrectangular troughs of ebonite, which contains the liquid of eachelement. The elements are connected in series, the zinc of one cell. Fig. coupled to the two carbons of the next, and a winch andrachet enables the plates to be wound up out of the solution, or to beimmersed to any desired extent. The medium weight of a battery of six cells is thus given :—6 Zincs ., ., .. ., .. .. 7-680 Kilogrammes 12 Carbons6 Ebonite troughsContactsOak standards ..Liquid .. 5-4601*620o-6oo3-0002-30012-800 Total weight .. .. .. .. 33-460 ,, or 67 kilogrammes for the two batteries. This weight might bereadily reduced to 50 kilogrammes. The elements are formed .of a plate of zinc, and two plates ofcarbon, electro-coppered at the upper part. The zinc has a notchwhich serves to fix it to the metallic couplings covered with india-rubber, which supports the elements. Thus the zincs can be readilyremoved for amalgamation or replacement. The liquid for a battery of six elements consists of water, 8 kilo-grammes; pulverised bichromate of potash, i2 kilogrammes; sulphuric THE DENTAL RECORD. 19 acid, 3*6
