The building is 170 feet in length,of Roman Doric style, surmounted by a cu-pola. The grounds comprise about fortyacres. The first cost was about $43,000. TheAsylum was really opened in part in the sum-mer of 1828, under the superintendency ofMr. Gideon Palmer. This is one of the noblestcharities in the city.
