Cerebellar cortex, light micrograph. Purkinje cells (across centre) are some of the largest neurons (nerve cells) in the human brain. They are located within the Purkinje layer in the cerebellar cortex. Here, the large Golgi apparatus of these cells are stained with Cajal's formol-uranium silver method. The granular layer shows a stippled appearance due to staining of the small Golgi apparatus in the cerebellar granule cells.
