An exterior view of Whitleys shopping centre on Queensway in Bayswater, London.

Whitleys was originally London's first department store and was opened by William Whiteley in 1863 on Westbourne Grove . In 1911, the department moved to it's new purpose-build store on Queen's Road (now Queensway) as seen in this image. The building was designed by John James Joass and John Belcher and today is a grade II lsted building. The department store closed down in 1981 and it's interior was redevloped in 1986 as the shopping centre which we have today.
