A 1930 cover from the French popular science magazine \Je sais tout\". It shows a man watching television, an early colour model. Baird gave the first practical demonstration of television in 1926 in London, followed by a demonstration of a colour model in 1928. The first public television service was started from the BBC station at Alexandra Palace in 1936. The first successful colour broadcasting system began in 1953 in the USA. SECAM (sequential and memory), a variation on the American system differing in the way colour signals are prepared for transmission, was subsequently adopted in France."
