Both are held inhigh esteem throughout the community. SCHEIFLEY, George, a well-known railwaymail clerk, whose home is in Tennessee, Mc-Donough County. 111., was born in TennesseeTownship. February 16, 1867, a son of Chris-tian G. and Caroline (Holoch) Scheifley, na-tives of Wurtemberg, Germany. Christian HENRY TERRILL HISTORY OF McDOXOUGH COUXTY. 997 Scheifley was born in 1S23, and at the age offourteen years was a soldier in ttie Germanyarmy, in whicli lie remained until 1856. riethen came to the United States and lived inthe East until April, 18G1, then enlisting inthe Sixteenth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infan-try, for three months. At the end of that periodhe re-enlisted in Company B. One Hundred Six-teenth Regiment Ohio Voluntepr Infantry, inwhich he served as Lieutenant until the closeof the war. He was wounded in the heel by apiece of shell. Returning to Ohio, he shortlyafterward moved to Xauvoo, 111., where he re-mained two years. He then engaged in farmingin MoDonough County until 1874, when hemoved to Augusta, 111. He died in Leaven-worth, Kans., in 1902. George Scheifiey started out for himself at anearly period in life, and worked on a farm untilhe was twenty years old. He had studied andtried in different ways to educate himself, and
