During the 1940s it was common practice for female cleaners to be employed on the railways in this ( model released ) image one is seen cleaning GWR 4-6-0 Manor Class engine “Cookham Manor”. At Didcot Railway Centre a working heritage rail museum. Based around the original Great Western Railway Engine Shed built in 1932, the centre also features a Coal Stage, a working 70 foot turntable, and modern locomotive works, among many fascinating buildings including the Great Western Trust museum.
