Titanic Memorial Engraved Bricks at Woolston Millennium Garden, Itchen Southampton, Hampshire, England UK
The Woolston Millennium Garden was built with the help, support and sponsorship of local people at the turn of the century. It was designed by Peter Codling on the theme of Flight and Float to commemorate close link the local community has always had to world class aircraft and ships. Perhaps the most moving part of the garden are the 42 engraved bricks laid as part of a circle within the garden. They commemorate 42 local people who lost their lives on the RMS Titanic when she sank in 1912. There are also 14 engraved bricks detailing 14 survivors of that tragedy. In another part of the garden there are many engraved bricks giving names of local people and businesses at the end of the twentieth century, thus providing a permanent snapshot of the area for years to come.
