The misunderstandings anddelays spread over years, and the final official publication at lastappeared, when later discoveries had caused the objects and theviews originally expressed in many cases to be antiquated andsuperseded. How can justice be done, under such conditions, to thepriceless treasure which the spade of the excavator reveals tothe world ? How can accuracy and thoroughness in theexcavating work and in the elaboration of its result be thusensured .? No doubt there have been many excavations moreamply provided with means, with a more adequate staff otexpert assistant
