Greek mythical figure Pandora opens the box, letting out all the evils of the world, except hope.

According to Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. The king of gods, Zeus, ordered her creation as his revenge on men and sent her as a wife to Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus, with a box that he told her not to open under any conditions. But her curiosity won, and she opened the box, letting fly out all the evils that afflict humankind. According to the legend, by the time she closed the lid, only Hope remained inside. This 1917 drawing is a fanciful interpretation of Pandora, who, overwhelmed by her curiosity to open the box ,watches as the evils fly out.
