The condensation in the chamber over the piston passingthrough the adjusting screw B is carried away by a small drip-pipe into the ash-pit. Another improvement consists in making the piston P quite. long, a loose fit, and putting in water grooves, which make atight water packing to a perfectly free piston which, from ex-perience at work, has proved very effective. The special object sought in this regulator has been to pro-vide a device which shall be sensitive and at the same timeproof against the rough usage and neglect which a boiler and itsappendages sometimes, unfortunately, receive. In this, thesteam being taken at full boiler pressure, there is sufficient powerprovided to move the regulator under any difficulties likely toarise in practice. Marine Engineering. The Cleveland Shipbuilding Company in Cleveland, O., hascompleted a thorough reconstruction of its yard and plant, in-cluding a considerable extension of its shop facilities. TheCompany has on hand contracts to build five large triple-expan-sion engines, len large Scotch boilers capable of carrying 150lbs. of steam, and three steel steamers. One of these is aferry-boat ; the other two are freight boats for the Lackaw
