It is unquestionably better,and in warm climates it is essential, to have the basins covered. Another method of utilizing the ground-water is to construct a coveredgallery which shall permit the percolation of water into it, and from whichthe water can flow to the pump-well; for, as is indeed ordinarily the case,.
