Logging industry the felling of commercial coniferous forests in Widdale Fell. A landscape of Felled Woodland, North Yorkshire Dales, National Park.

Commercial forests that were planted in the late 1960's and early 1970's have now grown to the point of requiring harvesting if the value of their crop is to be maximised. These forests came into being on the back of tax breaks for higher rate taxpayers offered by the various Governments of the day, and the investment opportunity proved attractive to pop stars and the like keen to minimise the drain of their earnings to the Exchequer. Great Knoutberry Hill, also commonly known as Widdale Fell, is a mountain located near Dent at the heads of Ribblesdale, Dentdale and Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Cumbria/North Yorkshire border runs over the fell.
