View SE of Midhowe Neolithic chambered cairn, Orkney, Scotland, UK, showing the long rectangular burial chamber divided into 12 compartments or 'stalls' by pairs of transverse upright slabs. The terminal NW stall is in the foreground, the entrance passage leads in from the far (SE) end. The remains (often incomplete & fragmentary although there were 8 crouched skeletons) of some 25 humans were found deposited in various parts of the tomb. The cairn is protected by a modern building.
