Sedimentary rock showing bioturbation, the displacement of sediment by burrowing or bottom- dwelling animals, in this case the extinct mole shrimp Thalassinoides. This animal lived in branched burrows in sand. When the sand was compressed into rock, the burrows became fossilised, leaving the tubular fossils seen here. This sedimentary rock was laid down during the Cretaceous period, which lasted from 146 to 65 million years ago.
