Norman women's dress of the 12th century. They wear long tunic robes, veils and wimples. Long sleeves terminating in a kind of pocket 131. The coverchief veil hangs very low down on the left side of the head 132. The right woman’s veil is gathered into two folds upon the top of the head and confined by a diadem, or broad circle of gold, and her purse sleeve pockets are in a different colour 133. Handcolored copperplate engraving from Robert von Spalart's Historical Picture of the Costumes of the Principal People of Antiquity and Middle Ages, Vienna, 1802.
