Tramadol hydrochloride is a prescription analgesic drug used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is a synthetic opioid similar in structure to codeine. In the central nervous system it acts similarly to natural endorphins by combining with the opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, blocking the transmission of pain signals sent by the nerves to the brain. Tramadol can be addictive.
