Head large, 2 to 2f times as long as broad; snout with slightly convex upper profile, as long as broad or a little broader than long, about twice as long as eye, which is 5 to 5J times in length of Fiff. N.). f. head, 1| to IJ times in interorbital width and equals pr^eorbital depth ; mouth large, very oblique, not extending quite to below anterior border of eye ; lower jaw strongly projecting; teeth in 4 or 5 series, a few of the inner sometimes tricuspid, outer large and strongly curved, 60 to 70 in outer series of upper jaw; 5 or 6 series of scales on the cheek, width of scaly part greater than diameter of eye. Gill-rakers mode- rately long and stout, 7 to 9 on lower part of anterior arch. Dorsal XV-XVI 8-10 ; spines increasing in length to the last, which measures.
