Apollo 12 astronauts. Crew for the Apollo 12 mission standing in spacesuits in front of a Lunar Module section of the Apollo spacecraft. These three astronauts had been named by NASA as the primary crew of the Apollo 12 lunar landing mission. From left to right they are: Charles 'Pete' Conrad Jr. (1930-1999), Richard Francis Gordon Jr. (1929-2017) and Alan LaVern Bean (born 1932). Conrad was the mission commander, Bean was the Lunar Module pilot, and Gordon was the Command Module pilot. Apollo 12 took place from 14-24 November 1969. It was the second manned mission to land on the Moon, with Conrad and Bean touching down on the Moon on 19 November 1969, while Gordon remained in orbit around the Moon.
