It was however again rebuilt by Edward the 17th Abbot; and his successors,Robert de Redngo and Henry de Longchamps, who rebuilt and completed theother buildings and those of the different manors belonging to the Abbey. Abouta century later the west front of the church was damaged by a storm and was re-built. At the close of the 14th century Richard de Croyland, a monk and a nativeof the place, succeeded to the Abbotship and rebuilt the eastern extremity of thechurch on a scale of magnificence superior to the neighboring churches of theprovince.
