Interior of Casa Riconada great kiva seen through the window on the north east, showing some of the 28 niches and the encircling masonry bench. Built around AD1100, aligned to celestial north, and with a diameter of c 20m (63+ft) this is one of the largest Anasazi great kivas in the Southwest: an imposing subterranean structure for religious, ceremonial and other community (rough hewn timbers) used as window lintels
