A Kubasaki High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet models the uniform worn by the Marines of the Revolutionary war Nov. 8 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. Under the leadership of the Marine Corps’ first commandant, Capt. Samuel Nicholas, the Marines underwent a baptism by fire when they stormed the beaches of New Providence in the Bahamas. Two hundred Marines and 50 sailors captured two forts and the city of Nassau, seizing weapons and supplies that would later provide vital support for General George Washington’s army.
