Vasectomy, artwork. A vasectomy is a method of sterilisation in which each vas deferens is cut. The vas deferens is a duct that carries sperm from each testis (lower centre) into the urethral duct of the penis (not shown). This is generally classed as a permanent contraceptive option, but can be reversed in exceptional circumstances by a vasovasostomy operation. The bladder is at upper left, with the prostate gland (cream) beneath it.
