Panther chameleon. Close up of a panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), showing one of its large eyes. Chameleons have very good eye sight for reptiles. Their eyes can rotate and focus separately giving a full 360-degree arc of vision around their body. Both eyes can be focused in the same direction, and the eyelids are fused forming a small hole just large enough for the pupil to see through. This gives sharp stereoscopic vision and depth perception, letting chameleons see small insects from a long (5-10 centimetre) distance. Photographed in the Montagne des Francais Reserve, Madagascar.
